Bangladesh to get €300m budget support from France

France will provide €300 million in budget support to Bangladesh to help the country combat climate change.

The concessional loan agreement was signed between Bangladesh and the Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) on Monday, according to a press release.

The three-year programme, covering 2023 to 2026, also includes a €5 million grant to finance technical cooperation for various stakeholders involved in implementing the policy loan.

The programme aims to support Bangladesh’s climate-resilience and low-carbon development pathway, aligning with the medium and long-term national priorities set out in the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan (MCPP), and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). The first loan instalment of €100 million is expected to be disbursed by June 2024.
